Gil Scott Heron 1949 – 2001

Posted in caught by juliobesq on May 30, 2011

I read with sadness that Gil Scott Heron has died. I can still remember hearing “B-Movie” for the first time on it’s release and being utterly transfixed. Discovering afterwards there was this huge back catalogue of incredible music and words. Years later I was delighted to create the merchandise for a couple of his tours and was able to see him perform live many times. A charming man, even after I spelt his name wrong in three places on the sample t-shirt design. A personal highlight was having him sanction an unofficial t-shirt I did protesting apartheid that used in part his lyrics from “Johannesburg”.

A truly original artist and a wonderful person. Greatly missed.
